Ten year-old fancy food company Urban Accents has long sought to use food and cooking as a way to bring people together. Their extensive line of spice blends, drink mixes and cocktail rimmers are masterfully conceived, expertly positioned, and taste fantastic. These premium products are sold in boutiques and high-end grocery stores across the country.
Urban Accents' line of Dryglazes—grill seasonings that are applied like grilling rubs, with the properties of a glaze—were excellent products. Customers loved flavors like Cayman Citrus, Athenian Herb, Mandarin Ginger and others, but the square metal packaging was doing the products a disservice. The previous packaging was expensive and difficult for stores to shelve, and honestly didn't let the seasonings put their best foot forward. So, in conjunction with Urban Accents, we designed tent boxes that employed bold type, luscious food photography, and simple use directions—all more consistent with existing Urban Accents' spice bottle packaging. Winning rave reviews in focus group testing, the packaging has garnered industry media attention—and most importantly, much improved sales. Designed in partnership with Creative Commune.
How do you make popcorn balls into an upscale, gourmet treat? Using great Urban Accents seasonings and culinary know-how, developing these sweet and savory snacks wasn't an issue. But how could packaging help elevate this ordinary holiday staple into a premium gift set? Alongside Urban Accents and Creative Commune, we designed a gift set that could highlight the beautiful and unique look of flavored popcorn balls, while also eschewing typical holiday snack cliches. A warm, sophisticated palette adorned with pattern and restrained typography yielded a package that would pop off the shelves.
Urban Accents developed a set of seasonings to upgrade the everyday burger recipe, dubbed Burger Blends. With flavors like Cajun Heat, Chicago Steakhouse and Caribbean, our task was to make sure the package design and custom food photography lived up to the grilled promises. Yum. Designed in partnership with Creative Commune.
With the design, art direction and food photography for this these product catalogs, we sought to draw out the unique flavor "stories" of Urban Accents' complete product line. The catalog elevated Urban Accents' brand and products, and highlighted the unique flavor families that make up Urban Accents' core products. With flavor profiles like American Adventures, Pan Asian, Global Exotics, Old World Classics and Latin Heat (each with accompanying backstories), weaving a visual story centered around gourmet cooking and entertaining wasn't difficult.
